A $83 million residential development combining homes and businesses has been confirmed for the new Maroochy CBD.

Habitat Group has announced its plans to develop two towers in the CBD, the first stage to commence in the second half of 2019.
This announcement follows the Council plans to build a nine storey 'tower of power' in the new city centre that would become the regions new city hall.
Commentator Bernard Salt describes the Sunshine Coast Region as a 'hotbed' of start-up action, and said that millennials and baby boomers would embrace the new city centre as a desirable place to live, work and play.

The Sunshine Coast Council has projected revenue of $310million to flow to the Maroochydore new city centre by 2028.Borrowings are estimated at $124.534 million to fund the completion of the project.

A further $120m has already been spent including commercial and residential property along with land to accommodate roads.

The new centre is expected to deliver benefits including 30,000 jobs, new public facilities and improved traffic and pedestrian flows through Maroochydore.

More than 90% of the first stage lots were in commercial or contract negotiation, worth $91m. There are five more precincts yet to be released and they will be released progressively over the 20 year life of the project.

Sun Central, the managers of Maroochydore CBD, have secured a four way deal to develop 'Super Lots' in the new city centre. 

In the $200 million deal; John Holland, SunCentral Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast have signed a memorandum of understanding that will create a precinct of about 1.4ha that will be high rise buildings; one of these is a dedicated City Hall which will also house council staff, another will be a University campus including accommodation for international students.
Mayor Jamieson said more than $450 million worth of construction has been proposed through the expressions of interest in the city centre.

The 53 hectare SunCentral Development in Maroochydore has some impressive numbers;


  • Creating 5000 jobs by 2020 and more than 30,000 by 2040
  • Expected to add $350 million to the State economy in the next five years
  • Will provide $4.4 billion boost to Sunshine Coast economy over the life of the project
  • Projected to generate an estimated $5.9 billion in total expenditure
  • 150,000m2 commercial floor area
  • 65,000m2 retail floor area
  • 1950 residential apartments
