Recent data complied by Conus economists displays unemployment on the Sunshine Coast is down to 5 percent - the level now accepted as full employment.
The job creation led by the health sector and boosted by the opening of the new hospitals has seen the Sunshine Coast unemployment rate fall below Brisbane's (5.4%) for the second year in a row.
Of the 13,200 new positions created in 2017; more than half were part time and around 6200 full time. The health sector created more than half the new positions, other employment leaders were transport, postal, warehousing sector adding 2700, and construction adding 2300 jobs.

1. Over the past two years the Coast economy has seen the gross regional product increase by nearly7% and job numbers by 4.8%.
2. A recent challenge supported by Coast business saw 3000 jobs offered in 50 days, a great effort!
3. Kawana Shopping World is getting a new cinema. Council approval has been granted for an extension to the shopping centre. This will include the cinema complex with 10 screens, more specialty shops and 750 more car parks. This expansion is expected to bring 200 retail jobs once finished and opportunities for locals during the construction phase.

A & G Insurance whose well-known brands of Budget Direct and Compare the Market, have recently announced they are planning to double their workforce within two years. The company has just celebrated 15 years in business and contributes $15 million to the local economy.
